In the last three years, SWFs have invested alongside a range of partners. In 2017, the trend reached a new high as SWFs completed 203 investments in a consortium or partnership, over double the number of solo deals.
Sovereign wealth funds are distinctive financial market participants, often with a shared culture of collaboration and interaction. Both the data and IFSWF’s experience suggest they are increasingly looking to invest with peers, forming private equity consortia with other government funds in quality companies offering steady cash-flows and dividends in more prosaic sectors such as consumer goods and services.
These types of investments now represent approximately a tenth of all sourced deals.
